Thank Governor Dayton for Supporting Afterschool

Thank Governor Dayton for Supporting Afterschool Programs

Governor Dayton kicked off his second term and 2015 the right way: by laying out a bold vision for investing in education, including investments in afterschool (his full address is embedded on this page, read the top of page 4 for his remarks on afterschool). This is a big victory for afterschool programs, and shows that our efforts to educate policymakers about the value of afterschool programs have been working. Let’s thank Gov. Dayton for championing investments in our young people, and urge him to increase investments for afterschool programs in his upcoming budget proposal.

From January 6th until his formal budget is released on January 27th, we urge you to call or write a letter to Governor Dayton’s office to thank him for supporting afterschool programs in Minnesota, and to urge him to increase funding for afterschool programs in his upcoming budget proposal.

Dear Governor Dayton,

I would like to thank you for calling for investments in afterschool programs in your recent inaugural address. As a resident of [your community/city] and a [your role, e.g. parent, youth advocate, afterschool stakeholder, etc.], it’s important to me that young people have opportunities to continue learning and discovering their passion outside of school. I also know how important afterschool and summer programs are for keeping young people safe, and helping working families.

Please continue to be a champion for Minnesota’s young people and our economy, by including increased public funding for afterschool and summer learning programs in your upcoming budget proposal.

Once again, thank you!

Sincerely,
