Policy Alert: Reach out to Representatives on the House Education Innovation Policy Committee

Things are moving quickly! Our bill to establish a competitive grant program for afterschool programs across MN has been introduced in the House (HF 947) and Senate (SF 1017), and now we’re having our first hearing in the House Education Innovative Policy Committee this Thursday, February 26th.  This is our chance to show legislators that there is a passionate constituency that believes in the power of afterschool programs, so take action now! Here’s how:

  • Call or email your local legislators on the committee to let them know you support funding for afterschool programs. You can look up your representative here and view a list of the committee members here. You can use this call sheet for a general script and talking points – but make sure to personalize it with your own experience!
  • Attend the Committee Hearing this Thursday, February 26th. The hearing is in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building starting at 8:15 am. Our bill is 2nd on the agenda, so you should plan on attending from 8:15 – 8:45 am.

If you can’t get involved in these opportunities, don’t forget that Afterschool Advocacy Days at the Capitol are coming up! We will partner with the YMCA for their YMCA Day at the Capitol on March 10th, and will be participating in the Youth Day at the Capitol on March 13th.
